Dortmund drop points in goalless draw at Heidenheim

Borussia Dortmund dropped important points in the fight for a spot in the Champions League in a goalless draw at promoted Heidenheim.

This was Dortmund's first goalless draw in the Bundesliga since October 2019.

The guests endured a lot of pressure from Heidenheim and thought they had their opener in the 26th minute after Donyell Malen received a pass from Jamie Bynoe-Gittens before rounding goalkeeper Kevin Müller and firing it home from a tight angle.

But after a video review, the goal was ruled out because Malen was offside.

After the break, there were only a few goal chances and Dortmund had one of the best opportunities in the 79th, but Müller saved Nico Schlotterbeck's effort from outside of the box.

Niclas Füllkrug also made his bid as he unleashed a dangerous rising drive, but Müller was again superb to deny Dortmund a goal.

Heidenheim could have scored a winner in stoppage time, but Kevin Sessa headed the ball across the goal and just beyond the reach of the diving Stefan Schimmer.

Dortmund remain fourth, still four points above RB Leipzig, the first team outside the Champions League qualification zone, while Heidenheim are a surprise in ninth.

Saturday's action include Darmstadt v leaders Bayer Leverkusen and champions Bayern Munich v Borussia Mönchengladbach.
