GREENLAND — Second-term North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, a Republican billionaire and former software executive running for the White House, will be making his presidential pitch to voters on Tuesday in Greenland.

The conservative 2024 presidential candidate will be stumping before New Hampshire voters at a Boxwood Path backyard town hall. Burgum is slated to appear at 4 p.m.

The 67-year-old governor founded Great Plains Software in 1983, which was later bought out by Microsoft. Burgum then served as senior vice president of Microsoft until 2007.

The candidate launched his presidential bid with an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in early June, followed by a rally in his home state a day later.

“Small-town values have guided me my entire life,” Burgum told the Fargo, North Dakota crowd when announcing his run. “And frankly, big cities could use more ideas and more values from small towns right now.”

The governor is one player in a growing pack of Republicans vying for the GOP nomination in next year’s election. The list of candidates includes former president Donald Trump former Vice President Mike Pence, in addition to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.

A University of New Hampshire Survey Center poll from last month asked likely state Republican presidential primary voters to identify their first choice GOP 2024 candidate. Burgum tied for fourth with Christie, receiving 6% of votes from respondents, while Trump led the way with 37%, followed by DeSantis (23%) and Scott (8%).

Burgum joins several other 2024 Republican contenders for the White House who have made stops in the Seacoast and Strafford County in the election cycle thus far, a group that includes Pence, DeSantis and Haley. Democrat Marianne Williamson, an author, activist and spiritual leader, stumped in Portsmouth in March.
