CINNAMINSON — Doughnuts, coffee and fried chicken.

Not necessarily in that order, but Tim Hortons, a Canadian coffee and doughnut shop, and Popeyes are coming soon to the former Triboro Motors site at the intersection of Route 130 South and Taylors Lane in Cinnaminson, right next to one another.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will be a 3,150-square-foot store with a drive-thru and is expected to open in July, while Tim Hortons will be a 2,820-square-foot store with a drive-thru and outdoor seating area and is expected to open in September, according to Cinnaminson Township Mayor Ernest McGill.

Both Tim Hortons and Popeyes are affiliated with Toronto-based RBI, which also owns Burger King and Firehouse Subs.

“The Cinnaminson Township Planning Board previously granted preliminary and final site plan approval for the two growing restaurant franchises,” McGill said.

Tim Hortons opening second store in South Jersey

The first Tim Hortons in South Jersey opened on the White Horse Pike in Stratford in November 2021.

The company — co-founded in 1964 by former hockey star Tim Horton — is Canada’s largest publicly held fast-food chain, according to its website, “with 80 percent of Canadians” visiting a Tim Hortons at least once a month. That produces sales of more than 5 million cups of coffee per day, it says.

It serves coffee, doughnuts, and other bakery items and has over 5,000 restaurants in 14 countries worldwide.

According to financialpost.com, Tim Hortons increased sales by about 11% to $1.73 billion in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the first quarter of 2022.

Popeyes continues its growth in the area

Popeyes’ “Louisiana-style” menu includes fried chicken and chicken tenders, fried shrimp and other seafood, red beans and rice, and other items.

It already has locations multiple locations in South Jersey, with one coming soon to Burlington Township.

The 50-year-old chain describes itself as “the world’s second largest quick service chicken concept as measured by total number of restaurants.”

Popeyes, founded in 1972 in Louisiana, has over 3,500 restaurants in 30 countries worldwide.

“The projects are the result of the continued development efforts of Township Committee and the Township’s Economic Development Committee and will redevelop a long-abandoned site at one of the Township’s gateways, add approximately 50 local jobs and continue to enhance the Route 130 business corridor,” McGill said.
