Dover American Legion Post 205 hosting raffle

The Dover American Legion Post 205, is selling tickets for a $400 gift certificate that will be used at the Dover Buehler’s Store. The cost of the tickets is $1 each or a book of six for $5. Two hundred books have been printed and the proceeds will be split between the Jack Reese Scholarship and Post General Funds. Post members will be selling tickets at the Dover Buehler’s this Saturday, July 30, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Veterans Memorial in the town square is beginning to come together. The landscaping with the flowers and the walkway, really look good. If you get a chance, stop by and take a look. Also, notice the design of the walkway. We would like to have a dedication before the weather changes, but we are at the mercy of the completion and delivery date.

Shawn Jackson, who recently returned from being deployed in Africa, and a Post 205 member, presented a flag and plaque to the Post. The flag flew during a mission. The plaque reads as follows:

“This certifies that the accompanied flag was flown in combat over Horn of Africa in support of Operations OCDIVE SHIELD and OCTAVE QUARTZ on March 24 aboard a mighty C-130H aircraft, assigned to the 449th Air Expeditionary Group, Camp Lemonnier, Djubouti. The flag represents the will and resolve of the American people to stand strong and defeat all who attempt to do us harm.”

We had only two members, two guests, and four officers attending this monthly meeting. We need more members and new members, to attend our meetings to help keep us active. We are not asking for a lot of your time, meetings last less than an hour. Our next meeting will be August 1st, starting at 7 p.m., at Dover’s Memorial Hall.
