Dover400 launches new website

DOVER — Dover400, a committee of residents organizing the city's 400th birthday celebration in 2023, has recently launched a new website to communicate the happenings and news at dover400.org.

Dover400 enlisted D Graphics of Dover to implement a contemporary design, using custom code to allow for ease of user experience, content updates, and merchandise portal. The website also has a page populated with each of the 12 historical presentations, a popular series delivered by Dover400 team in 2021. “We are so pleased with the refreshed web presence,” said Angela Carter, Dover400 Communications Committee chair. “Web visitors will find the new site engaging, easy to navigate, and full of important information about the 400th celebration.”

Dover400 is holding a 400 for $400 fundraising campaign, an effort to solicit 400 donors at $400 with all proceeds will support the activities planned throughout 2023.

ROCHESTER — The Rochester Elks conducted its annual installation of officers (2022-2023) recently in the Lodge Hall, led by Scott Welch, past exalted ruler. His installing suite included past exalted rulers Tom Ducharme,James Clark, Bonnie Skidds and Jason Parker and Peter Meyer, a lodge trustee.

Visiting dignitaries included Dennis Dionne, past exalted ruler, past district deputy, past state president and state Elks Association trustee from the Keene Elks Lodge, and his wife Judie, a past president of the Dover Emblem Club and state past emblem president.

Welch gave the oath of office to 11 lodge officers. Exalted ruler Matt Sanborn pledged to uphold the historic traditions and principles of the Rochester Elks, adding Rochester has a tremendous officer corps.

Outgoing exalted ruler Jerry Skidds thanks everyone who has supported the lodge.

The Rochester Elks Lodge 1393 was chartered in 1920 and today has over 960 members.

Dover announces spring cleanup of unpermitted signs

DOVER — The city’s Department of Planning and Community Development staff will conduct a cleanup of off-premise signs, including those placed on trees and utility poles or within the right-of-way without a permit.

Sign owners are advised to remove any unpermitted signs before the cleanup, which will occur by Friday, April 8. Any confiscated signs will be held at City Hall for 30 days before being recycled or destroyed unless the owner claims it and pays a reclamation fee based on the person-hour and equipment use cost to remove the sign. Repeat offenders may be subject to prosecution and fines.

Sen. Hassan recognizes Kateryna Ridley of Dover as March’s Granite Stater of the Month

Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-New Hampshire, has recognized Kateryna Ridley of Dover as March’s Granite Stater of the Month. Ridley, who is originally from Ukraine, is spearheading efforts in Dover to support her home country amid the invasion of Russia.

Ridley handcrafted wooden Ukrainian flags at home to show support for her home country. Within four days, she received 100 orders and today, the total number of orders is well over 300, with the profits going to help get Ukrainians everyday necessities. She also led efforts to collect donations such as medical supplies, first aid, personal hygiene supplies, and baby items to send to Ukraine.

Portsmouth to start Bridge Street parking lot upgrade on April 11

PORTSMOUTH — The city will start work on upgrades to the Bridge Street parking lot on April 11, with an estimated completion date in mid-May. The lot will be fenced off and closed during construction. The Bridge Street lot work includes reconstruction of the paved area, handicapped accessibility upgrades, subsurface preparations that would allow for electric vehicle charging stations and landscaping.

Portsmouth parking shortage: City to lose 300 spaces for 3 years due to garage repair

The work is being completed ahead of the first phase of the High-Hanover parking garage renovations. The city anticipates awarding the garage contract in April, with construction starting in May. Prior to that time, DPW will hold a public meeting to answer questions and address concerns.
