Dover girls tennis improve to 2-0 on season; Exeter boys win opener

DOVER – The Dover High School girls tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a 7-2 Division I win over Manchester Central on Wednesday.

Dover’s Joci Faasen (No. 2, 8-0), Tory Vitko (No. 3, 8-1), Riya Ramdev (No. 4, 8-2), Mia Mozzoni (No. 6, 8-2) all won their respective singles matches.

In doubles, Wilson and Faasen won 8-3 at No. 1, Vitko and Ramdev won 8-2 at No. 2, and Mozzoni and Ashlynn Swierk won 8-0 at No. 3.

Windham 1

DURHAM - Sophie Gibson (No. 1, 8-0), Clea Gibson (No. 2, 8-3), Kathryn Demarest (No. 3, 8-2), Sofia Karageorgos (No. 4, 8-0) and Maggie Farwell (No. 6, 8-1) all won their respective singles matches for Oyster River in its Division II season opener.

Sophie Gibson and Farwell won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, Clea Gibson and Karageorgos won 8-4 at No. 2, and Demarest and Siena Schaier won 8-2 at No. 3.

Pelham 6

St. Thomas Aquinas 3

PELHAM - Anna Seifert (No. 3, 8-2), Brooke Currier (No. 5, 8-6) and Taylor Brown (No. 6, 8-4) all won in singles action for the Saints in their Division III season-opening loss.

BOYS TENNIS

Exeter 9

ROCHESTER – The Blue Hawks opened their Division I season with a shutout on the road.

Exeter’s Charlie Gaughan (No. 1, 8-2), Dom Theos (No. 2, 8-1), Robert Berthel (No. 3, 8-4), Ryan Byrnes (No. 4, 8-1), Owen Simon (No. 5, 8-0) and Lance Makabali (No. 6, 8-1) all won in singles.

In doubles, Gaughan and Nick Myers won 8-4 at No. 1, Theos and Byrnes won 8-0 at No. 2, and Berthel and Oliver Berardino won 8-0 at No. 3.

Manchester Central 1

MANCHESTER - Diego Lopez (No. 1, 8-4), Judah Payeur (No. 2, 9-8, 7-2), Pat Carroll (No. 3, 8-6), Nate Bigelow (No. 4, 8-1), Colby Bigelow (No. 5, 8-0) and Evan Weete (No. 6, 8-3) all won in singles action for the Green Wave.

Colby Bigelow and Carroll won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and Gavin Chu and Nate Bigelow won 8-2 at No. 3.
