DOVER ‒ The Dover Public Library will hold a fundraiser for the Sharkey-Issaquena County Library, located in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, at 6:30 p.m. June 28. Living historian and Dover resident Don Maurer will present An Evening with Mark Twain.
The Sharkey-Issaquena County Library was hit by a tornado in March and sustained major damage to its roof, windows and book collection. Donations to help the Mississippi library will be accepted at the event. A donation box has been placed at the front desk at the Dover library for the month of June.
"I had read about the damage to the library in Rolling Fork and thought we could help out a bit," said Jim Gill, library director. "Rolling Fork is located in the Mississippi Delta and is one of the most rural areas of the state. We are excited to partner with New York Times bestselling author Linda Castillo on this project. Ms. Castillo has been gracious enough to donate a collection of autographed books for the fundraiser. Some of the books will be raffled off and some will be given to the library in Rolling Fork."
Checks can be made out to the Sharkey-Issaquena County Library. Gill plans to travel to Mississippi to personally deliver the proceeds, book and other donations. For more information, contact Gill at the library at 330-343-6123 or by email at email@example.com.
