Dowagiac sweeps SHS, Bronson 1-1 on Saturday

The Sturgis softball team dropped a pair of games to Dowagiac on Friday.

The Chieftains won the games, 13-0 and 16-0.

In the opener, Sturgis did not register a hit. Maddison Bailey, Madison Webb and Kennedy Finnerman each reached base via a walk.

In the second game, Finnerman singled. Aubrey Mealor hit a single as well while Mia Martinez registered a double for the Trojans. Webb and Mealor also reached base by earning a walk.

Bronson splits a pair

The Bronson softball team played to a 1-1 mark at the Polish Classic on Saturday.

The Lady Vikings won the opener over Marshall, 6-5, but fell in its second game to Watervliet 4-2.

“We played very good competition today. This is what we need,” Bronson coach Becky Gray said. “We did not come out on top in the championship game, but I felt we played very well. We are so close. We just need to fix a few things that will put us over the hump.”

Bronson is 21-11 on the season.

In the game against Watervliet, Addison Harris started the contest and threw 4 2/3 innings. She struck out two and scattered a few hits. Lynsey Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings in the game, striking out one.

Bronson registered eight hits in the game, they were each a single. Brealyn Lasky clubbed three of those hits and drove in one. Jaydn Cary, Kaylee Wilber, Aubree Calloway, Caitlyn Hagen and Ciara Blankenship each registered one.

In the opening game, Smith pitched five innings and struck out seven. Harris struck out three in the final two innings of work.

Cary doubled twice at the plate, she drove in two runs. Wilber singled twice with one RBI, Haylie Wilson added a single and a double in the game. Lasky drove in two with a base hit, Blankenship registered a base hit as well.

On Thursday, Bronson split with Niles-Brandywine.

Smith took the loss in the first game, striking out five in an 11-10 defeat. Cary singled twice and drove in two, Lasky hit a single and a double while Blankenship registered a single and a double with one RBI. Wilson singled twice, Wilber and Calloway each hit a single in the game.

Bronson won the second game, 16-14. Harris started and Smith came on in relief.

Calloway belted a home run, hit a single and drove in two runs. Wilber singled three times and had one RBI, Lasky drove in three total runs with a pair of hits. Hagen singled twice, Harris hit a single and a double in the game. Cary drove in two with a single, Wilson tripled while Blankenship and Smith each hit a single in the game.

Constantine falls

The Constantine softball team dropped a pair of games to Buchanan on Friday.

The Bucks won the first game, 18-0. They scored 14 times in the third and four times in the fourth.

Charlee Balcom and Alizza Schieber each hit a single in the game for the Falcons.

Buchanan won the second game, 16-0. The Bucks scored nine times in the first, six times in the second and once in the third.

Constantine registered one hit in the game, a single from Breanna Bristol.

Three Rivers at Byron Center

Three Rivers played a couple of games at Byron Center on Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats lost both, 5-3 to Byron Center and 4-3 to Midland.

TR took a 2-0 lead after their opening at bat against Byron Center. Byron Center would take a 3-2 lead after four, but TR tied it in the fifth.

Byron Center would score twice in the sixth to earn the win.

Kendall Penny clubbed a home run and drove in two for TR. Ava Forman, Allie McGlothlen and Lanie Glass each collected a base hit.

Forman pitched all six innings, striking out two. She did not allow an earned run in the game.

Midland scored a run in the seventh inning to win the second game, 4-3.

Forman belted four hits in this game. Ashton Ware collected three hits and drove in two runs while Gabby Charvat singled in one. Macy Ivins had a base hit as well.

Vicksburg beat Three Rivers twice on Friday, 16-1 and 13-1.

In the opening game, Peyton Ware had the lone hit for TR. Ellianna Raymond was credited with an RBI in the game.

In the second game, Penny hit a double. Amaya Jones, Forman and Payge Ellifritz each hit a base hit.
