'Down a couple of thousand': Early voting results in 11% turnout prior to Aug. 4 election
Results from early voting, which ended last Saturday, show an approximate 11% voter turnout prior to Election Day on Thursday.
According to the Maury County Election Commission, 7,520 voters showed up during the early voting period between July 15-30. This included 5,962 Republican, 1,460 Democratic and 98 General votes.
In Maury County, there are 67,842 registered voters, with a population now estimated to be more than 100,000.
Maury County Election Administrator Brandi Cothron said this year's early voting and absentee numbers were slightly less than the previous 2018 primary, which drew 10,222.
"We're down a couple of thousand this time. I don't know why, but you can never predict why, or maybe there will be lots of voters who decide to vote on Thursday," Cothron said. "Hopefully, that's the case and we'll have a really good turnout tomorrow."

Thursday's election will include numerous races, including votes for a new Maury County Mayor, 11 seats on the Maury County Commission, six seats on Maury County Schoolboard, as well as multiple state races and elections for general sessions and circuit court judges.
Uncontested races include votes for Maury County Sheriff, District Attorney, Maury County Trustee, Maury County Clerk and Register of Deeds.
Polls will open starting at 7 a.m. Thursday and will close at 7 p.m., with results announced as they come in throughout the night. Registered voters must also bring a Tennessee issued license of ID along with their voter card.

Cothron added that voters should also check their updated voting cards following the county's recent redistricting, as some precinct locations might have changed.
"The ballot is a little long this year with so many candidates, so be prepared to be at the booth for just a little bit," she said. "And be sure to look at your voter card to see where you are supposed to vote. And if there are any questions, of course they can call our office and we can tell them where to go if they are unsure."
