Down on the farm: Glaeser family of Dundee offers chickens, eggs, more

The race was on.

The chickens were released from the chicken coop to check out a grassy area for something to eat. Greeting them was Kay Glaeser and her daughter, Ashley Drew, who eventually threw them some food. Along with the chickens, ducks raced to the children's pools to splash and take a bath just like a child would.

Bill and Kay Glaeser, owners of the Glaeser Family Farm in Dundee off Irish Road, started out with chickens before opening their store this past Labor Day.

“We bought the farm in 2019,” Kay Glaeser said. “We have been selling meat chickens and eggs since then. We have four to five dozen eggs a day. They are sold here and at Brost Farms, along with the frozen meat chickens."

The couple decided to raise three pigs, which went to the processor recently, so that the Glaesers would have fresh, frozen hams to sell for the holidays. The Glaesers also joined up with Brost Farms to have grass-fed beef, hamburger and steaks to sell as well.

"We had five turkeys and hope to have more next year,” Bill Glaeser said. “It was a trial and error period."

The store has a variety of homemade gift items for the holidays like cocoa, soup and brownie and muffin mixes. Along with some miscellaneous vintage items, Ashley Drew creates wax candles and a few are in teacups. The farm also sells locally made soaps and honey.

A featured item in the store is Vintage Twist by Ashley. The artist takes old jewelry and creates an artistic piece in a frame, such as a bouquet or wine glass.
