Downed Power Lines Spark Vehicle Fire in Maryland

Live wires fell on a truck and sparked a fire in Gaithersburg, Maryland, on the morning of Wednesday, May 5, local fire officials said.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson shared this footage of the vehicle ablaze near the intersection of Diamond Avenue and Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg.

The cause of the downed the power lines is unclear, but the National Weather Service warned on Wednesday morning that thunderstorms with “damaging winds” were forecast for the area.

The fire department’s spokesperson said a power outage was reported in the area and some traffic lights were out. The vehicle fire was extinguished and no injuries were reported. Credit: @mcfrsPIO via Storyful
