Russia attacked the southern Ukrainian regions with Shahed drones overnight and targeted the industrial zone of Odesa, Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces reported on Telegram on Feb. 28.

"The wreckage of a downed drone damaged a transformer at one of the critical infrastructure facilities," the statement said.

A short circuit ensued, resulting in a fire, but swift action by firefighters promptly extinguished the flames.

Russia reportedly deployed ten drones from the Black Sea to Mykolaiv and Odesa oblasts. Ukrainian air defense units repelled the Russian drone attacks for 1.5 hours.

The majority of Shaheds were intercepted over the sea: one in Mykolaiv Oblast and nine in Odesa Oblast.

No casualties or injuries were reported, said Oleh Kiper, Odesa Oblast governor.

Air alerts sounded in the southern and central Ukrainian oblasts on Feb. 28. The Air Force warned about the presence of a group of Russian Shaheds in the south. Explosions rocked Odesa.

The Ukrainian Air Defense Forces successfully destroyed all ten Shahed attack drones employed by Russia in the assault on Ukraine.
