Downey gas leak prompts evacuations, alert sent to phones

An emergency notification that was sent to smartphones and other mobile devices urged residents to avoid the scene of a gas leak in Downey.

ELLEN LEYVA I'm Ellen Leyva, live from ABC7 with some breaking news.

Do not be concerned if you receive an alert about a gas leak in Downey. City officials say the alert was sent out wider than was intended.

Police, fire, and the gas company have all been on the scene since 10:30 this morning. It happened at the corner of Stewart and Gray Road and Reeves Avenue. Anyone within 300 feet has been evacuated.
