Cinegenix’s App Store description for its FiLMiC Pro video camera app begins with a shockingly bold statement. According to the company, its iOS app “beat the $5000 Sony FS100 and tied the $13,000 Canon C300 in blind audience testing” in a recent video camera shootout. Even more shocking, perhaps, is that the quality of videos captured using its popular iPhone and iPad app is so good that we absolutely believe that claim.

FiLMiC Pro gives iPhone and iPad users control over their videos that has previously only been available to pros, and it captures video content that you won’t believe was shot on a smartphone or a tablet. Most incredibly, perhaps, it can now be had for free for a limited time.

From the app’s App Store description:

FiLMiC Pro turns your mobile device into a broadcast worthy HD video camera. FiLMiC Pro gives you a real time, 4x zoom and full control over, focus and exposure, white balance and frame rates including a host of motion fx. Additionally, FiLMiC Pro has a ton of professional tools such as audio meters, and aspect ratio overlays. This app has everything you need to create your own Hollywood movie, documentary, iPhone news story, music video, or travelogue.

New features include external audio monitoring, Chroma Key, Screen Display options and built in integration with FiLMiC’s new Remote app.

FiLMiC Pro is the standard for iPhone videography.

Features include:

-Real time, 4x Zoom
-30 variable capture/output frame rates
-3 Separate shooting modes
-4 selectable resolutions including 2 iFrame modes
-Audio metering and monitoring
-Stereo recording support
-Event mode: with record/pause/record feature
-Customizable saved settings
-Aspect ratio overlays (2.35:1, 4:3, 16:9)
-Thirds guide for dynamic composition
-iTunes File Sharing
-6 different upload destinations
-4 variable bitrate options per resolution

FiLMiC Pro is usually $5 but for a limited time it is completely free. It’s also a universal app and while we strongly urge against using an iPad to record video because it’s just offensive, your videos might as well look amazing if you absolutely have to record them with an iPad.

A link to download FiLMiC Pro in the App Store can be found below in our source section, and a few samples of videos recorded with FiLMiC Pro on an iPhone 4S or and iPhone 5 are embedded below.
