Downtown Farmers Market, meal under lights ahead for Perry Square; Donut Factory opens

Foodies, lend me an ear: The Erie Downtown Partnership and The Urban Oasis Project are organizing a Downtown Farmers Market in Perry Square every Sunday through Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find fresh produce vendors, crafts, makers, flowers, food, beverages and more. There is also live music at noon and a free kid-friendly yoga class each week at 11 a.m.

Red Letter embraces summer

Red Letter Hospitality is swinging into summer with various events and more, according to a news release.

First, they're offering a four-course meal Saturday in the middle of Perry Square under the lights. Sponsored by the Perry Square Alliance, the meal will be created by the chefs at Molly Brannigan's, 506 State St., and served from 6 to 10 p.m., according to Red Letter Hospitality. Tickets are $125. Meanwhile, they're debuting a new menu at The Cork 1794, 900 West Erie Plaza Drive, which you can view at cork1794.com/menu/. Features include an appetizer, Summer Burrata with cherry heirloom tomatoes, basil pesto, pine nuts, balsamic reduction and a grilled baguette; Gazpacho, a cold soup of watermelon, heirloom tomato and jicama; and King Trumpet Mushroom with cauliflower cashew “polenta,” corn succotash and pickled red onion. Finally, Skunk & Goat Tavern, 17 W. Main St., North East, is sponsoring the Gibson Park Corn Hole League with Stetson Bros. Hardware. The fun starts Mondayand runs through Aug. 29. The league will consist of 12 teams that will meet in Gibson Park, Routes 20 and 89, North East, playing either at 6 or 7 p.m. After the games, league members are entitled to one free draft beer at the tavern. The cost is $100 per team and includes entry fee, T-shirt and weekly beer. League champions win a beer-pairing dinner for four at S&G. Register at bit.ly/skunkcornhole.

King of the Strip food truck

Dale Booker's steak food truck, King of the Strip, passed inspection for licensing on June 23.

Booker, an Erie native, entrepreneur and hip-hop/rap music artist who goes by Bando Booker, has bookings available for the food truck, according to its Facebook page.

The truck offers cook-to-order New York strip steaks, burgers, hotdogs and chicken kabobs with sides of eggs, asparagus and barbeque baked beans.

Donut Factory opens

It's time to make the doughnuts.

The Erie Donut Factory, 5031 Peach St., hosted its grand opening Friday after passing inspection for its license on June 23. The store is in the Summit Plaza next to the Hallmark Store.

Owner Ed Lang said the store, which is not a franchise or chain, will eventually offer 40 flavors of large and small doughnuts and other bakery items such as cookies and cakes.

The Factory posted job openings for a donut maker and a baking assistant on its Facebook page, facebook.com/eriedonutfactory.
