Downtown Jacksonville: Energy Authority is on the move from TIAA Bank Center to Riverplace Tower

A Jacksonville-based energy portfolio, analytics and trading company is moving from the TIAA Bank Center on downtown’s Northbank to the Riverplace Tower on the Southbank.

The Energy Authority has reached the end of its 14-year lease in the TIAA Bank building at 301 W. Bay St. The Jacksonville Building Inspection Division approved three different permits this month that will augment the relocation that will cost about $3.1 million.

The permits pave the way for the tenant buildout at 1301 Riverplace Blvd.

Officials with The Energy Authority say the new offices will cover two of the upper floors and part of another for 28,000 square feet. The TIAA location provided 31,000 square feet on one floor.

The relocation will move all 170 employees to the new location. While it is a relocation, officials with the company said they are committed to maintaining a presence in downtown Jacksonville.

Adams Interior Contractors is the company that will handle much of the work at Riverplace Tower, which will largely involve reinforcing concrete in the building.

New Starbucks coming to Emerson

A Starbucks coffee shop will soon be added to the area of Emerson Street and Philips Highway in Jacksonville.

City building officials recently approved permits to construct the coffeehouse on 1.26 acres at 3725 Emerson St.

Ladson Construction is the contractor for the $1.3 million project. Officials with Ladson said the retail space will cover 3,020 square feet with 2,562 of that being indoors. The exterior areas will provide for additional seating under a canopy.

The new Starbucks is projected to open in September. It will have a two-lane drive-thru area and be designed to handle a large amount of dine-in customers with 44 parking spaces and eight bicycle spaces.
