Downtown Norfolk Thai restaurant reopens with new name, owners

·1 min read

A favorite downtown Norfolk Thai restaurant is back.

After a short closure earlier this year, Rama Garden Thai Cuisine at 441 Granby St. has a new name and a new owner. Original owner Boonrit “Jack” Ngamsaard has retired and handed off the restaurant to son Chalermsak Ngamsaard and his wife, Kantima Ngamsaard.

The restaurant is now called Tida Thai Cuisine, which it shares with three other locations in Hampton Roads. Those restaurants were also founded by Jack Ngamsaard.

Chalermsak Ngamsaard said he’s changed up the menu to include more noodle and grill dishes, but the restaurant still has favorites like pad thai, drunken noodles and curry.

The owners are also working to get their alcohol license and hope to start serving drinks soon.

Jack Ngamsaard opened Rama Garden in 2007. Rama closed at the end of July and the restaurant reopened as Tida on Aug. 3.
