New Sacramento sports bar opening this fall will bring massive screens to Downtown Commons

Soon, sports fans drinking shots of peanut butter whiskey and devouring bowls of prime rib dip in a 360-degree viewing room will be a typical Tuesday night in downtown Sacramento.

Tom’s Watch Bar will open the doors to its first Northern California operation in October nearly two years after its original opening date. The small Denver-based sports bar chain will take the 6,300-square-foot space under Polanco Cantina at 414 K St. in Downtown Commons, just a few yards from Golden 1 Center.

The Sacramento location was supposed to open ahead of the Kings 2021-22 NBA season in late October 2021, according to previous Bee reporting, but the final decision was dependent on the impact of COVID-19. The bar is expected to open in October, but the exact date isn’t known.

The bar’s “All the Sports, All the Time,” slogan is backed by stadium-sized screens and hundreds of smaller televisions in the space, according to its website. Expect to watch mainstream games; as well as e-sports and international competitions like snake wrestling and cup stacking.

“Sacramento’s a great town, and honestly as we’ve been building out the Tom’s Watch Bar concept, we want it to be a great place to meet before home games but also to be the center of team activity during away games,” said Tom Ryan, founder of Tom’s Watch Bar, in a 2021 interview with The Bee.

“We’ve been placing locations around areas where there’s a major and loyal sports fan base, and Sacramento met that criteria for us.”

Sacramento will join locations across Maryland, Minnesota and Nevada and southern California. Sports bars in Texas, Florida and Washington, D.C., are in the works.
