Downtown San Luis Obispo hotel gets revamped restaurant, amenities — and a new name
The Kinney SLO Hotel officially has a new name — plus a few updated amenities and a rebranded restaurant.
The Kinney, located at 1800 Monterey St. in downtown San Luis Obispo, rebranded as The Wayfarer hotel in March. It is now the second Wayfarer, along with a location in Downtown Los Angeles, according to a news release.
The hotel is located a mile from Cal Poly, replicating the campus feel with themed rooms like the Dean’s Suite, Professor’s Suite, Grade Suite and Campus King and Queen rooms.
The rooms have script-embroidered pillows and collage-style photographs on the walls, helping to lend them a college-town vibe, according to the news release.
Some of the updated amenities include a year-round heated pool, a fitness center with Peleton bikes, an outdoor patio with fire pits and games and weekly events such as Trivia Night on Wednesdays.
Event spaces include The Library, which can fit up to 100 people, according to the release. A second event space, The Gallery, has a 60-person capacity with a nearby patio.
In total, the hotel has roughly 2,000 square feet of event space, according to the release.
The hotel also has re-branded its restaurant to Schoolyard Burgers and Brew, offering classic American dining, according to the release. The menu includes garden salad, grilled cheese, loaded fries, chili tots and the Schoolyard Royale Burger.
The restaurant is is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with breakfast offered until 11 a.m. and lunch and dinner served from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Brunch is offered Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to noon, with a special “boozy brunch” option during the same hours.
The hotel also offers a 75-cent wine special every Monday from 5 to 10 p.m., according to the release.
Cal Poly students can bring their student ID for the $5 study hall menu during weekdays.
