Downtown Sanford Streetfest & Fireworks set for Saturday

Oct. 4—Saturday will be a day of food trucks, entertainment, fireworks and kazoos ... that's right, kazoos.

The Fifth Annual Downtown Sanford Streetfest & Fireworks kicks off at 1 p.m. all around Downtown Sanford as the food trucks open and raft vendors open up. Downtown stores will be open at 10 a.m. as well.

Downtown Sanford Executive Director Kelli Laudate is excited about the event — and this year's weather, which is predicted to be a perfect fall day.

"It's going to be wonderful," she said. "The temperature couldn't be better. It's going to be a perfect, crisp fall day."

There's a little bit of everything going on during Streetfest, according to Laudate.

"We've got 19 food trucks, which is fantastic," she said. "Five breweries will be here. Two local breweries, Hugger Mugger and Wild Dogs, will be here and three breweries from around the area. Then we have the main stage. We'll have bands including the Simpletones, Chairmen of the Board and Part Time Party Time Band. I think the real fun comes with our second stage acts because we have so many incredible local and international artists. People like Khd Kai and Magetsi — we're super excited to have them here because they'll be dressed up in the beautiful costumes. Charlie Watson Lane will also be a big hit with Black Belt Leadership Academy and ... a kazoo parade.

The kazoo parade will be sponsored by the Lee County Orchestra, according to Laudate.

"They bought 100 kazoos and we're going to have our Disney characters that are coming lead the parade around downtown," she said. "The parade will be at 3:30 p.m."

At 4:30 p.m. Danza Azteca Olin will be performing.

"They have gorgeous costumes," Laudate said. "We have a stilt walker and so much more."

Laudate also said that El Refugio will have a "Fiesta Latina" on Moore Street.

"It's going to be fantastic," she said. "They've got a Day of the Dead event. They're also going to make sugar skulls with kids."

There will also be some new Downtown Sanford Inc. merchandise on sale at the Information Booth.

There is also another part of the event happening on lower Wicker Street.

"There will be a touch-a-truck event," Laudate said. "Caterpillar is bringing a truck out, the fire department, police department and sheriff's department will all be there."

Of course, Downtown Sanford Streetfest & Fireworks ends with fireworks, which will take place at 8:45 p.m. following the Party in Depot Park. For a complete schedule and map, visit www.snafordstreetfest.com

"It's going to be great and the weather will be perfect," Laudate concluded.
