Downtown Spooktacular features trick-or-treaters, parade

Oct. 27—It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Ghosts, monsters, princesses, super heroes and more will swarm downtown Logansport for Thursday for trick-or-treating and a Halloween parade.

The 2022 Downtown Spooktacular will begin with trick- or-treating from 4 until 6 p.m. followed by a parade that will march from the city building to the The State Theatre.

Sammy Terry, Indiana's popular spooky film host, will grand marshal the parade. Mark Carter portrays Terry, a role inherited after his father and original actor Robert retired in 2010. Terry became a regional celebrity beginning in the 1960s providing creepy commentary during Nightmare Theater, a Friday night showcase for b-movies. Terry now plays host to a Youtube channel and Facebook streams. Robert Carter passed away in 2013.

Miss Cass County Makenna Leicht and members of the Logansport police and fire departments will also be part of the parade. Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to participate and show off their costumes. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes.

The parade will run from 6 until 7 p.m. and will begin at the city building, 601 E. Broadway. The parade route will lead to 4th Street and then over to Market Street towards The State Theatre, 317. E. Market St.

Following the parade, Sammy Terry will be perform at the theater and will be available for autographs and pictures.

The Spooktacular has been part of Logansport for over a century. Recent years have seen COVID-19 and weather spoil the event, but Thursday's weather looks to be cool and clear.

The Logansport Elks Lodge #66, 1100 N. 3rd St., has sponsored the Downtown Spooktacular and parade since the very beginning. This year they are joined by Logan's Landing.

Road closures can be expected in the downtown area from 5:30 until 7 p.m Thursday in the areas of 4th and 6th Street and North St. Drivers should use caution.

Twenty-eight downtown businesses will hand out candy during Thursday's trick-or-treating hours.
