Is Doylestown getting a Target store? What we know so far

Target is set to open a new location in Doylestown.

A Target spokesperson confirmed the new store will open in the Doylestown Shopping Center, joining several other retailers, including Acme Market, Staples, Famous Footwear, as well as restaurants, including Bacco Italian Bistro, Wendy’s and Turning Point.

“We’re excited to bring an easy, safe and convenient shopping experience to new guests in the Doylestown community with this new Target store. Located at 456 North Main Street, the store will be approximately 73,000 square feet,” said the spokesperson.

“As we get closer to opening the store, we’ll have more specific details to share, including how the shopping experience will be tailored to serve local guests and the grand opening date.”

Where in the shopping center will the new Doylestown Target go?

Based on the address given, Target will go into the space formerly occupied by the Mercantile, which closed in late January. However, that space is only 25,000 square feet.

Construction is set to begin in the coming weeks on a new Target store in the Doylestown Shopping Center in Doylestown Borough.

Sean Sablosky, CEO and founding partner of Arrow Real Estate Services, which manages the property, could not comment on Target joining the shopping center due to a non-disclosure agreement, but he was able to confirm that four adjacent spaces — formerly occupied by the Mercantile, Essentials Salon & Day Spa, Bon Ton and Michelle’s Hallmark — have been fully leased.

The total square footage of those combined spaces is about 75,000 square feet, said Sablosky.

When will the Doylestown Target store open?

An expected opening date was not provided by the Target spokesperson, but Sablosky said, “construction for the new tenant should be starting before the end of the month.”

Will the Doylestown Target be a small-format store?

The new store will follow Target’s small-format design, said the spokesperson, unlike the Target in Warrington's Creekview Center, which is categorized as a full-size store at 124,600 square feet.

Target's small-format stores, originally rolled out in 2016 to take up a smaller footprint in dense urban areas, like Philadelphia, and average around 40,000 square feet. According to the Target website, these smaller stores carry many of the same categories as the larger locations, while tailoring them to the specific needs of the community.

"Because these spaces cover a lot less ground, our teams have to be extra efficient when planning how to fill each one. We do plenty of research to understand the surrounding community and its needs—such as noting which other businesses are nearby and conducting listening sessions with local guests, groups and community leaders—and design our merchandise plans to match," the website reads.

Targets can include everything from pharmacies, grocery aisles and Starbucks locations.
