Doylestown Streets To Close This Weekend For Dining, Shopping
DOYLESTOWN, PA — As part of ongoing efforts to sustain the local economy during the coronavirus pandemic, Doylestown Borough will close several streets Friday and Saturday night for outdoor dining and entertainment.
On Friday and Saturday from 5-11 p.m., East State Street between Pine Street and Main Street will be closed to vehicle traffic and turned into pedestrian zones as restaurants and shops expand to the outdoors.
First announced in June, Operation Doylestown is a collaboration between the borough and the business community to attract residents to the downtown area amid a global pandemic that has put restrictions on indoor dining and shopping.
Various streets will be closed through the fall season to create pedestrian zones that give downtown merchants the chance to open outside, Discover Doylestown President Kris Boger said.
"It's been a nice way to engage with the businesses on different levels, and to safely welcome folks back," Boger said.
Operation Doylestown was based on a 1964 initiative by the borough dubbed Operation 64 that involved local business owners banding together to prevent outside interests from turning downtown into a commercial district.
