Dozens flock to Julian to experience snowfall

JULIAN, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — The road conditions were not slick as of Thursday afternoon, but temperatures were dropping and there is still potential for snowfall overnight into Friday morning in the mountains.

Most of the snow that fell Thursday afternoon was melting as soon as it touched the ground.

“In an hour, I can completely change up my world, and I did!” said Jane Hinshaw, an Escondido resident who drove to visit Julian for a few hours Thursday. “It’s not a lot of snow, it’s only a little bit, it’s a little more wet than cold but it’s kind of fun to be up here breathing the fresh brisk air.”

Although the Winter Weather Advisory has come and gone, dozens are flocking to Julian to get a look at what some people call “winter,” which San Diegans aren’t typically used to.

“Alice got out of school early so we came up to see the snow and support some of the local businesses here,” said Sunshine Reyes about her daughter who was enjoying playing in the small amount of snow in Julian.

“I’m trying to make snowballs, but making snowballs is kind of impossible,” Alice Reyes said.

“I love it, im not originally from San Diego, so it’s nice to take them to different environments and let them have fun and be a kid in the weather,” Hinshaw added.

Many of the mountain school districts canceled classes because of the weather conditions Thursday, but no word about whether or not the districts would cancel school on Friday.
