Dozens of Logs Smash Through Windshield, Driver Miraculously Survives
Man crashes into back of suddenly braking log truck, and it looks like it must have been very bad for the driver.
Amazingly, he was not injured because he was reportedly bending down to retrieve something on the floor of his Nissan Xterra at the time of the impact.
Two things: We're glad he's okay, and we recommend everyone pay closer attention to the vehicle in front rather than retrieve objects, even if it worked out this time.
Dumb luck. That's what saved a man from an all but certain grisly death in his Nissan Xterra SUV. This past weekend, an unnamed Georgia man was unhurt in a spectacular collision with a log-hauling tractor-trailer. The truck braked unexpectedly in front of him, and he rear-ended the trailer with his SUV, sending logs through the vehicle, as they impaled the windshield and made their way past the second row into the cargo area of the vehicle.
The only reason the man survived was because he was reaching down to grab something he dropped on the floor, a move that likely saved his life according to news reports on the scene. There were approximately 30 to 40 logs that went through the car. Due to the position of the man, none of the logs skewered him, and he was able to walk away unscathed. It took firefighters a while to get to him, though, as they had to use chainsaws to cut through all the logs before they could pull the man from the car.
There's no safety feature that prevents logs from blasting through your windshield. Sure, braking detection systems work, but don't forget this is technology that works best at low speeds. Plus, you really ought to pay attention on the road, lest you be less fortunate than this driver. You don't want to be the subject of the next fire-truck/self-driving-car accident.
