Dozens of shots fired at motorists in Palm Springs early Saturday; no one injured

Dozens of shots were fired at people parking their vehicles early Saturday morning in Palm Springs, but no injuries were reported.

Palm Springs police were dispatched to the 1500 block of East San Rafael Drive soon before 1 a.m. where several people said they had been fired at from another car, according to a department news release.

Three vehicles were struck, police said, and the victims said the gunmen were driving a white or silver sedan. Some said they saw two or three people in the vehicle. Police said 20 to 30 shots were fired.

One woman was shot at in the same block on April 26; she also was not injured. Police reported the gunfire came from a white car in that case as well.

The city recorded eight homicides last year, a decade high. In February 2022, two people were killed within about a mile of Friday's shooting, and those investigations are ongoing. The city has recorded four homicides total this year.
