Dozens of students march through Alpharetta protesting Roe v. Wade decision

A pro-choice student group in Alpharetta saw dozens of its members come together to march through the streets of Alpharetta on Saturday.

The students marched down Old Milton Pkwy. all the way to Alpharetta City Hall.

“My body, my choice,” the students could be heard chanting as they marched.

They called for lawmakers to get rid of Georgia’s “heartbeat” bill, which bans abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is typically around six weeks.

“If it was about life, we would have fixed various problems in this country: gun reform, the foster care system. 2.5 million children are homeless in this country a year,” protester Komal Nambiar said during the rally that followed the march.

The LIFE Act, commonly referred to as the heartbeat law, is not currently in effect. It is still being ruled on in the courts. Pro-life activists have, however, promised to fight for it and stricter abortion rules.

“Babies are going to be saved. Moms are going to be saved from the trauma of abortion,” Karen Cross, political director of the National Right to Life committee, said after last week’s landmark decision. “We can’t save them all, because some states have abortion through birth laws and some states will have protective laws-- but we can save some.”
