Dozens in Thousand Oaks hold signs, urge drivers to slow down and save lives

Dozens stood on the corners of Thousand Oaks and Westlake boulevards Friday, holding signs and urging people to slow down and save lives.

The group included family members and friends of Wesley Welling and Mark and Jacob Iskander. The three boys were all struck and killed on local roads.

Julie Cohen, a friend of the Iskander family and one of the organizers of Friday's event in Thousand Oaks, said she and others wanted to remind everyone of the consequences of unsafe driving ahead of the holiday weekend.

In April, Wesley, 15, died at a bus stop near Westlake High School in Thousand Oaks. He was struck by a car that also injured three other students. Brothers Mark, 11, and Jacob, 8, died while walking in a crosswalk with their family in Westlake Village in September 2020.

On Friday, one of the signs said: "We will never forget Mark & Jacob and Wesley." It had three hearts drawn on the top and bottom.
