One person died Saturday afternoon after a crash involving a semi and vehicle in Carson County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at about 1:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, a 2020 Kenworth truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was westbound on State Hwy. 152, approximately four miles west of Skellytown. At the same time, 2012 Kia Soul was eastbound on 152 and approaching the semi.

For an unknown reason, the driver of the Kia failed to drive in a single lane and veered over into the westbound lane in the path of semi, DPS said. The driver of the semi attempted to avoid the Kia by steering toward the north shoulder but could not prevent the collision.

DPS said the Kia made a frontal impact with the truck tractor’s back left dual wheels.

The Kia's driver, identified as Cydney Morriss, 51, of Lefors, was pronounced dead at the scene by Hutchinson County Justice of the Peace Jean Hardman.

The semi's driver was not injured.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear. The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
