Texas DPS agent stationed in El Paso dies from traffic crash injuries

A Texas Department of Public Safety special agent stationed in El Paso died Saturday at a San Antonio hospital following a traffic crash near Eagle Pass.

Special Agent Anthony Salas, 37, was on duty in Maverick County and working with U.S. Border Patrol when he was involved in a traffic crash during the arrest of six migrants, DPS officials said.

According to the DPS Facebook, officers at the scene performed CPR on Salas before EMS took him to the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Center,

He was later airlifted to the University Hospital in San Antonio.

Salas died from his injuries just after 11 a.m. on Saturday with his family by his side.

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a statement on Salas, "saddened to hear that Texas DPS Special Agent Anthony Salas was killed in a horrific vehicle accident in the line of duty in Eagle Pass. This tragedy is a somber reminder of the selfless sacrifices our law enforcement make."

Salas joined the department in 2013 and was stationed in El Paso.
