DPS releases names of motorcyclists killed in head-on crash near Coleman

COLEMAN − Two motorcyclists were killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on crash with a pickup truck about 2 miles south of here, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news release Tuesday.

John Roger Ortiz, 40, of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Rogelio Espinoza, 42, of San Antonio were driving motorcycles south on U.S. Highway 84 about 1.9 miles south of town at about 4:25 p.m. when a northbound pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the vehicles, the release said.

Ortiz and Espinoza were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Vickie Kemp.

Pickup driver Mary Francene Nix, 72, of Coleman was transported in stable condition with incapacitating injuries to an Abilene hospital. She was wearing a seat belt, DPS said.

DPS continues to investigate the crash.
