- Rumors of your retirement, are they true?

ANTHONY FAUCI: I don't know where the word retirement came in? It was kind of a little bit--

- Not mine.

ANTHONY FAUCI: No, I was-- the reporter--

- You're not going to retire, are you?

ANTHONY FAUCI: No, no. I'm not going to retire. I may step down from my current position at some time. And one of the reporters had asked me, and the question originated was, if Donald Trump is the next president, would you still work for him in your capacity? And I said a very innocent but true thing. I said, whether it's Donald Trump or it's Joe Biden's second term, I don't intend to be in my current position in January of 2025.

What happens between now and then I have not decided. But the one thing I do know is that I have other things that I want to do in a professional way, that I want to have the capability while I still have the energy and the passion to do them. So I picked, I don't want to go beyond January, 2025. When I step down from this position, I have not decided that yet.

- So for the twitterati, that's a denial of yesterday's reporting. I just want folks to know. OK.
