Dr. Joe and Susan Story donated $1 million to support the new Baptist Hospital campus currently under construction at Brent Lane and Interstate 110. Baptist Health Care Foundation will honor this gift by naming the Story Medical Office Building at Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Gulf Breeze.

Dr. Story was a co-founder and developer of the Andrews Institute. He served as the first president of Andrews Research & Education Institute and chair of Andrews Surgery Center. Susan Story recently retired as president and CEO of American Water Works, the largest water utility in the United States, and was formerly the president and CEO of Gulf Power Company. They will continue their legacy with Baptist through this transformational gift.

Cosplayers, businesses unite for Manna at Costume Bowl

The Costume Bowl charity fundraiser returns for its seventh annual event at 1 p.m. Sunday at Cordova Lanes Bowling Center, 2111 Airport Blvd.

In addition to bowling, the event holds several raffles of items donated by local businesses. This year’s items include two weekend passes to Pensacon 2023, celebrity autographed items provided by Pensacon, a $100 gift certificate to the Pensacola Fish House, and a $50 gift certificate to Five Sisters Blues Café.

The event — which began in 2015 co-organized by the “Star Trek” fan group USS Continuum and the “Star Wars” fan group Parjai Squad of the 501st Legion — has already raised more $8,000 for the two charities.

Bowlers can preregister at costumebowl.org. Groups of up to six can reserve a lane for $78, or individuals can register for $16. Groups and individuals can also register at the event. Prices include three games of bowling and the use of bowling shoes.

All proceeds raised will go to support Manna Food Pantries and Gulf Coast Kid’s House.

The Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition is hosting a fundraising gala to support programs and initiatives supporting local mothers, infants and children from 6 to 9 tonight at Seville Quarter’s Heritage Hall, 130 E. Government St.

Pensacola Children’s Chorus hosts Italiano fundraiser

The Pensacola Children’s Chorus is hosting its annual fundraiser, Italiano, to benefit their scholarship fund at Sanders Beach at 7 p.m. Friday at Sanders Beach Corrine-Jones Resource Center, 913 South I St.

Join organizers for a music-filled, entertaining and scrumptious evening featuring live dueling pianists from Seville’s Apple Annie’s, a special performance by members of the Pensacola Children’s Chorus, an elevated cocktail hour, Italian cuisine prepared by Chef Gus Silivos and a chance drawing with multiple prizes.

All proceeds benefit Pensacola Children’s Chorus's Tuition Assistance Fund which provides scholarships to singers with financial need. PCC never turns a family away due to financial circumstances. Each year, the organization awards over $40,000 in financial awards.

Escambia County seeks volunteer for Contractor Competency Board

The Escambia County Board of County Commissioners is seeking Escambia County residents interested in volunteering to serve on the Escambia County Contractor Competency Board. One applicant will be appointed for service beginning in December 2022.
