Dr. Shin E. Huang donates $1 million to ACMC

Nov. 29—ASHTABULA — Dr. Shin E. Huang has pledged $1 million to support the new patient care tower under construction on Ashtabula County Medical Center's campus.

Supporting local healthcare, and the community, has always been a priority for Dr. Huang and his family.

"Ashtabula has been our home for a long time. It is a special community," he said. "I've been blessed to raise my family here and to practice medicine at ACMC. I'm pleased to give back to our hospital and to our community."

ACMC Healthcare System President and CEO Leonard Stepp, Jr., said Dr. Huang's donation is another example of his love for medicine, his patients, and the community. "For over four decades, Dr. Huang devoted himself to serving patients in Ashtabula County. He did so much for so many. We are grateful to him, and to his family, for sharing his compassion and expertise with our patients — and now, for sharing such incredible generosity."

In recognition of Dr. Huang's legacy as a physician and his philanthropic generosity, the atrium of the new patient care tower will be named the Dr. Shin E. Huang Atrium.

"I have known Dr. Huang and his family for many, many years. They are wonderful people — caring, compassionate, and community-minded. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to honor Dr. Huang for his service to medicine and to the community than for every person who walks into the new patient care tower to see his name," said Sandi Kanicki, chairperson of the ACMC Foundation Board of Directors.

Dr. Huang, an obstetrician-gynecologist, joined the ACMC Medical Staff in 1972 and delivered more than 5,000 babies throughout his career in Ashtabula. He retired from practice in 2014.

"ACMC has meant so much to our family. Our children have memories of coming here to visit their dad or bring him dinner when he came in to deliver a baby," said Seung Huang. "The hospital is important to the community and to us. We are grateful to show our support through this donation."

The new patient care tower will open in June 2024, boasting 55 private patient rooms, 24 Emergency Department rooms, five state-of-the-art operating rooms, and an education/conference center. The ACMC Wound Healing Center and the Gift Shop will also relocate to the new tower.

In January 2022, Dr. Huang and his family presented the ACMC Foundation with a $100,000 donation to help advance women's healthcare in Ashtabula County.

The donation supported an imaging suite at ACMC dedicated to women's healthcare. The suite consolidates several of ACMC's existing imaging services into an area devoted to the unique needs of women.

The suite offers mammography, ultrasound, and a bone density scan all within a space designed for comfort, as well as quality healthcare. The project features new finishes, fixture upgrades, and new state-of-the-art equipment.

In October 2022, a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Dr. Shin E. Huang Woman's Imaging Suite was held at ACMC.
