The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to contend for another NBA championship in the 2022-23 season and have a veteran-laden roster, but their summer league team does have a couple of players that may play some sort of role this season.

The first is MarJon Beauchamp, whom the Bucks selected at No. 24 in the first round of the NBA draft. The 6-foot-6-inch wing out of the G League will have a chance to not only show what can make him a special defender but perhaps show off the work he has been putting in with his three-point shot.

"This is one of the great kids that I've been around. He's going to fit so nicely in our locker room," said Bucks summer league head coach Vin Baker. "He's a hard worker. He's talented. He wants to get better. I look forward to him competing, having a good summer league. He will be like every rookie; he'll have his ups, he'll have his downs, he'll have his bumps, he'll have his great moments.

"But the one thing I can guarantee is the consistent character. He wants to improve, he wants to get better, he has talent."

Second-year player Sandro Mamukelashvili, who appeared in 41 games for the Bucks on a two-way contract as a rookie, also will be playing for the team in Las Vegas, as will guard Lindell Wigginton, who also appeared in games for Milwaukee last season.

A player who Bucks general manager Jon Horst does not expect to play for the team this season but is an intriguing prospect is 21-year-old French guard Hugo Besson. The rights for Besson were acquired via a late draft night trade with Indiana.

"He's just gotten on the court – he's super talented," Baker said. "He's another one that works hard, works hard in the gym. Really, really talented. ... He can play, handle, shoot the ball. I'm excited to see how he competes here in Vegas. He's got the goods as well so it'll be fun to watch him and MarJon grow in the next couple of weeks."

Besson has drawn comparisons to Whitnall High School alumnus Tyler Herro for his play with the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian Basketball League.

"That's what it's going to be, a lot of growth and a lot of learning," Baker said of summer league. "I'm in a place to help them learn."

Hoops Hype (a USA TODAY property) reported late Tuesday that guards Luca Vildoza and Rayjon Tucker were to be waived by the club. Tucker ($1.8 million) and Vildoza ($1.7) were on non-guaranteed contracts for 2022-23 after signing late last regular season. Being waived does not preclude either player from being a part of the summer league team, and the Bucks did not issue an amended summer league roster.

Vildoza, the 26-year-old guard out of Argentina, made his NBA debut in the first round of the playoffs against Chicago and made some eye-opening passes. Tucker appeared in two regular season games for the Bucks after becoming the all-time leading scorer in Wisconsin Herd history.

Here is the rest of the roster the team released early Tuesday:

  • Zylan Cheatham (6-8, 220)

  • Sylvain Francisco (6-2, 170)

  • Evans Ganapamo (6-7, 195)

  • Marcus Graves (6-1, 187)

  • AJ Green (6-4, 190)

  • Dusty Hannahs (6-3, 210)

  • Dewan Hernandez (6-10, 235)

  • Matthew Hurt (6-9, 235)

  • Iverson Molinar (6-3, 190)

  • Timothy Soares (6-11, 245)

Baker will be joined on the coaching staff by Blaine Mueller, Chaisson Allen and Sydney Dobner. Guest coaches will be Francois Enyegue of FAP of the Basketball Africa League and T.J. Parker of AVSEL of the France Pro A League.

Play kicks off for the Bucks on at 6 p.m. Friday against Brooklyn and Milwaukee native Alondes Williams.
