A drag race between two cars left the driver of an uninvolved car dead on Friday night in Davie, police said.

The racers were speeding east on Stirling Road when another car made a right turn onto Stirling Road from Northwest 77th Avenue. One of the racing cars T-boned the turning car, killing the driver at the scene, police said.

The driver of the other racing car went to the hospital with arm injuries, police said.

The intersection at Northwest 77th and Stirling Road east will remain closed while officers investigate the crash. Police did not say how fast the racing cars were driving.

A similar tragedy happened in Miramar earlier this year, when a woman driving a Hyundai SUV unwittingly turned into the path of what police called a high-speed street race.

Margaret Chance, 61, was driving north approaching the 2100 block of S. State Road 7 and waited to make a left turn onto Southwest 21st Street.

Surveillance video showed several southbound vehicles had passed by before she made the turn westbound.

But then, a black Cadillac CTS struck the passenger side of her SUV and a second speeding car slowed down enough to make a U-turn before speeding away from the crash scene, the video showed.
