RuPaul's Drag Race icon Alaska has revealed that losing the crown to Jinkx Monsoon was actually a huge weight off her shoulders.

Alaska and Roxxxy Andrews finished the fifth season of Drag Race as runners up to Jinkx, but since the queens always film multiple outcomes they only find out who the winner is when the episode airs.

When the finale dropped, a devastated Alaska was captured crying at Jinkx's win, while Roxxy broke out into cheers for her co-star.

During a recent appearance on Sissy That Talk Show with host Joseph Shepherd, Alaska took a moment to address her reaction and explained that she wasn't crying tears of sadness, but relief.

"This was not 'I’m jealous and I should have won'. And I know people probably think I’m full of s**t by saying that," Alaska said.

"This was a relief because I had been telling everyone that I wasn’t going to win – and my family, people around me, my drag community in Pittsburgh, everyone was like: 'You could win!' And I was like, 'No, I can’t'.

She added: "And then they were like: 'You don’t believe in yourself!' So this was such a relief because I was, 'Well, now I know, and can it be over now'".

The All Stars season two winner went on to admit that she even smeared eyeliner down her face to make herself "look even more sad."

"What a visceral moment. Drag queens don’t do this anymore," Alaska continued. "People on Drag Race don’t behave this way because of me, because I showed them how rotted and childish it looks if you cry when someone else wins."

RuPaul's Drag Race US airs on MTV in the US and WOW Presents Plus in the UK.
