Drake men's basketball picks up 3-star recruit Kevin Overton in 2023 class

Fresh off its first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship since 2008, Drake men’s basketball picked up more good news and landed 3-star combo guard Kevin Overton on Monday night.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior out of Wichita, Kan., is listed as the No. 7 player in Kansas and No. 37 combo guard in the nation, according to 247Sports. He does not have a 247Sports Composite rating.

Overton held offers from Drake, Ball State, Hampton, North Alabama, San Diego, St. Bonaventure and Tarleton State, according to his social media. He also picked up offers from North Texas and UT San Antonio, according to 247Sports, before he reclassified.

The Oklahoma native played high school basketball at Norman North before reclassifying to the 2023 class and playing a post-grad season at Sunrise Christian in Wichita. He has helped Sunrise to a 30-win season, and leads the team in points and steals and is third in assists.

Overton joins Chico Johnson – who signed with the Bulldogs on Nov. 9 – in Darian DeVries’ 2023 recruiting class.
