'Dream Big Rally' striving to answer questions of today's teenagers

The "Dream Big Rally" aims to answer the questions of today's teenagers via speakers, including professional athletes from the Bucks/Mont area, relating how they handled issues in their middle and high school days.

Among the 12 scheduled speakers are Denver Nuggets guard Collin Gillespie, a star at Villanova and Archbishop Wood, Carolina Panthers tight end Colin Thompson, who also excelled at Temple and Wood, Villanova women's basketball standout Maddie Burke from Central Bucks West, radio personality/former sports writer Ray Didinger, American Idol Season 1 runner-up Justin Guarini, a Central Bucks East grad who is a singer, artist and producer, plus ex-Marine Raiders Special Forces Captain Bryan Buckley, nurse practitioner Jenna Lloyd from CB West and surgeon Devon Smith, who went to Lenape.

Hosted by Mike Carey and the Mike Pettine Foundation, the free event is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, from noon-2 p.m. at Lenape Middle School in Doylestown. Parents are welcome.

"I got the idea from talking with many of the 15- to 18-year-olds who work for me (at three restaurant/taverns)," Carey said. "Anxiety, depression, feeling isolated, not good enough, pressured by social media … I felt I had to try and make a difference and help these young men and women."
