The building at 3115 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta, has had many lives since going up in the late 1800s: as an inn where guests would arrive by horse and buggy, as the Henrietta Hotel, as Flatlanders Grille & Tap Room and as Jeffrey’s Bar. It’s also had at least a dozen owners. Ashley and Tyler Stone are the newest. Their business, Stone’s Pub, hosted its grand opening May 3. “This is a dream come true,” said Ashley Stone, 34. Not only for her but for her family. She and Tyler, 36, a truck driver for Wegmans for 12 years, have four daughters — Elliana, 11; Olivia, 10; Nova, 5; Breezie, 3.

Amal Elhelw is making history. Last month she became the first Rochester-area broadcast journalist to wear a hijab — head coverings worn by Muslim women — while anchoring the news. “I have always sought journalists who look like me but never found that representation in local news,” the 22-year-old said. “I’ve wanted to become that role model that young and inspired viewers like me sought for so long.” Now, it is happening. “And I feel like I am making a difference,” said the Penfield native, who works for WROC-TV (channel 8).

One man was shot to death and another was seriously injured in separate shootings Sunday afternoon in Rochester. The fatal shooting happened around 12:45 p.m. at North Plymouth Avenue and Smith Street. Jan Perez, 46, of Rochester was shot at least once in the upper body and pronounced dead at the scene. Late Sunday night, parolee Justin Singleton, 29, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in Perez’s death. The killing, which police say was drug-related, marked Rochester’s 25th homicide of 2022. Less than an hour prior to Perez’s killing, a 19-year-old Rochester man was shot at least once in the upper body at Pierpont and Bryan streets. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Four other people were shot in three additional incidents Sunday, but none of the victims’ injuries are considered life-threatening.
