Meet Kate Cuss. She gets paid in great British pounds to eat sweet, sweet, delicious chocolate. All year long.

After five years grafting on Asda’s Product Development team 32-year-old Cuss struck gold landing the role of Seasonal Confectionary Developer (aka ‘chief Easter egg taster’) for the supermarket chain.

Sampling around 1,000 eggs a year - including trimmings - Cuss has to be vigilant about how she plans her diary. “You make sure you’re not having full days constantly eating chocolate,” she says.

You balance what you eat at home - make sure you have something healthy and maybe do a bit of exercise in the evening to compensate for it.”

Cuss works tirelessly throughout the year, from product conception right through to launch. Whilst we’re smacking our lips over 2016′s chocolatey haul she’s jetting to places like New York, Chicago and Paris in search of new delights to bring us in 2017.

“I never get bored of Easter eggs, the most exciting time for me is when they start hitting the shelves,” she told us.

We’ll go out and do competitor reviews, inspiration trips and see what we want to work on for next year.”

When assessing products, Cuss puts personal preferences aside, thinking objectively about customers budgets and expectations. “The perfect egg must have a good ‘snap’, the right thickness and, most importantly, good quality chocolate,” she says.

She also swills a good deal of lime cordial between tastings to cleanse her palate.

The mother of one says she’s “quite surprised” by how much she’s up for receiving eggs at Easter. “It reinvigorates you,” she told us. “I don’t really get sick of chocolate, which is good.”
