Drew and Lea Lachey's play inspires docuseries set to film in Cincinnati

A new docuseries will soon film in the Queen City.

Drew and Lea Lachey, who run a performing arts center in Fairfax, have partnered with Film Cincinnati, Intent TV, Brave Berlin and Tvacom for a series about the making of "label•less," a musical stage play they produced.

The idea for the show was prompted by an educational exercise, Drew said, in which 16-to-26-year-old theater students wrote down ways they had been discriminated against or belittled.

"We took these anonymous pieces of paper ... and were moved to tears by some of the things we read," Drew told The Enquirer. "Things like sexism, racism. ... Things you know are issues, but don't think are as widespread as these notes led us to believe."

The exercise led students and the Lacheys to create "label•less," a play combining spoken word, original and popular music and dance choreography. Brave Berlin also created visuals for the performance.

"Our goal is to start conversations," Drew said. "Mental health, bullying, discrimination against disabilities, sexual preference, race ... all of these issues are tackled in the show, but it also shines a light of hope on the current situation, as well."

The docuseries will follow the current cast and the making of the play. It will also include footage of rehearsals and live performances.

The American Sign Museum will host performances of “label•less” on Aug. 10, 11, 12 and 14. Drew said they picked the Camp Washington museum for a more immersive and nontraditional experience.
