A dried out dead mouse, black slime & more in Upstate restaurants with worst January inspections

South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at restaurants in the Upstate in January, from a dead, dried up mouse near a bar to black slimy residue found in an ice machine. The state each month releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Upstate counties.

Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in January.

Sue’s Wings and Things at 4711 Hwy 81 North in Anderson

Sue’s Wings had an inspection on Jan. 5 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed an employee touching wings with their bare hands. Also observed that the ice machine had an accumulation of black buildup. Soda machine nozzles were also seen with black buildup.

Chicken wings were seen not cooked thoroughly enough. Certain foods were seen used past their expiration date. Grout and broken floor tiles were seen throughout the facility.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 25 and got an A grade.

Fuji Hibachi Wok & Sushi at 1000 N.E. Main Street in Greenville

Fuji Hibachi Wok & Sushi had an inspection on Jan. 3 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed that salmon and tuna were being stored at a residence and then later brought to the restaurant. Also observed was raw chicken stored in a sink.

Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 26 and got a B grade.

Besto of Greenwood at 414 Montague Ave. in Greenwood

Besto of Greenwood had an inspection on Jan. 2 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed an employee who kept pulling up their pants while wearing gloves and did not change gloves after.

Dishes were seen with an accumulation of grease and grime. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures. Employee on the prep line was seen without hair properly restrained.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 5 and got an A grade.

TW Boon’s at 405 Main Street in Greenwood

TW Boon’s had an inspection on Jan. 18 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed a dried out dead mouse on a sticky trap in the upstairs bar area. Also observed was an employee vaping in the kitchen.

A bag of uncooked wings was seen stored above multiple beef products in the walk-in cooler. The ice machine was seen with an accumulation of a black slimy residue. Multiple dishes were seen with an accumulation of food debris and were not clean to sight and touch. An accumulation of grease was seen on walls and equipment throughout the facility.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 31 and got an A grade.

China 1 at 5350 N Main Street in Spartanburg

China 1 had an inspection on Jan. 2 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed frozen chicken wings thawing in room temperature conditions. Also observed onions stored in a raw chicken box.

A lack of separation was seen between food preparation and storage areas and construction zones.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 18 and got an A grade.

Uncle Berto’s Burritos at 2509 Stone Station Road in Spartanburg

Uncle Berto’s Burritos had an inspection on Jan. 2 and got a C grade.

An inspector observed frozen chicken being thawed at room temperature.

Several salsa containers were seen without proper expiration date labels. Certain foods were seen not kept at proper holding temperatures.

The restaurant had a required followup inspection on Jan. 12 and got an A grade.
