Drinkin' on the Job ... A walk on the Woodside in West Greenville

We headed out to the bustling, up-and-coming, “old-made-new” village of West Greenville for our drinkin’ adventure this month.

After hearing such great things about Woodside Bistro in its “updated, upgraded” location at Woodside Mill, we just had to see it all for ourselves! What a treat!

Laura, Jared and Dylan gave us some insight into the “beverage program” and their team-approach to creating some simply stellar libations…

What’s on tap

Sustainability and affordability are at the top of the list for the team at Woodside, and they accomplish this in a couple of ways behind the bar. For starters, they recycle all of their glass (it is either picked up on-site or a local artist does some creative repurposing). They keep things affordable with some cleverly concocted beverages on tap. From a delicious, house-made ginger beer to a Negroni (our new favorite!), the creations flowing from the taps are absolute perfection!

Fernet Branca

This moody, herby concoction is a sipper with distinction. Fernet Branca and the Fernet Menta are combined here to strike the perfect balance and create what is also known as the “bartender’s handshake.” Long-touted for its medicinal effects, Fernet is moody, strong and not for the tender-tongued. But it is most definitely worth a “shot,” and is served in shot glasses sustainably made from the tops of old bottles, this one is a winner with every sip!

The Negroni

While a Negroni might seem a bit high brow at times, a Negroni on tap is super accessible and low-key!  Carpano Bitters (used because it has 30% less sugar), Gordon’s gin and three vermouths (French, Spanish and Italian) are combined to create a most consistently perfect elixir flowing from that tap every single time. A big ice cube and an orange peel complete its tasty, classic simplicity. You will not be disappointed!

Whose Side is it Anyway?

September calls for a respite from the continuing high heat, and this robust libation is the perfect refresher. A twist on the old classic, Southside, the “Whose Side” blends Hat Trick gin, zesty lemon, aromatic mint and cooling cucumber to create a supremely sippable beverage. This harmonious blend of flavors can be enjoyed all day long, all year long. So, if we must choose sides, we choose this one!

Ken’s Kitchen

Owners Ken Frazier and Austyn McGroarty have outdone themselves in this relatively new spot … and most notably in the kitchen. They started out at their first location with creative, affordable, locally sourced dishes; and they have not lost any of that focus and dedication. From plant-based items like Watermelon Sashimi to their legendary fried catfish, the “elevated casual” menu and vibe will suit just about any appetite or occasion.

Open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner and for Sunday brunch, Woodside could become our favorite habit!
