Driscoll fans 10 over six innings as Portsmouth baseball beats Alvirne in Division I game

PORTSMOUTH – Senior left-hander Boden Driscoll allowed four hits and struck out 10 over six innings as the Portsmouth High School baseball team beat Alvirne, 9-1 on Tuesday in a Division I contest.

Portsmouth is now 3-1 on the season, while Alvirne is 0-4.

The Clippers scored three runs in the first inning, added two in the fourth and four in the sixth.

Matthew Minckler and Sebastain Lampert each had three hits for the Clippers. Lampert homered and had five RBIs, while Minckler had two doubles, scored three runs and stole a base. Gar Hindle had one hit and two RBIs in the win.

BASEBALL

Oyster River 7 

St. Thomas 6 

DOVER – Sam Grondin and Ryan Gould each homered as St. Thomas Aquinas earned this Division II win.

Devon Paquette had three hits for the Saints, while Timmy Avery had two hits and scored three runs.

Cam Sengenberger had two hits and three RBIs for the Bobcats, while teammate Owen Jacques had two hits and two RBIs.

Bedford 8 

Dover 3 

DOVER – Jacob Mangum, Timmy MacGregor, Brady McDonough, Andrew Rapoza, and Ryan Sullivan each had a hit for Dover (3-1) in a Division I contest.

Bedford took the lead for good with four runs in the third inning, and added single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Maranacook 3/5

Traip Academy 2/0

READFIELD, Maine – Traip Academy lost both ends of a Class C South doubleheader, dropping the first game, 3-2, and the second game, 5-0.

In the first game, Maranacook scored the game-winning run on a suicide squeeze in the fifth inning.

For Traip, Quinn Alessi’s two-run double in the fifth scored Zac Foye and Reid Alessi, tying the game at 2-2.

Foye led Traip with two hits, while Zach Stacy struck out nine and allowed two earned runs

In the second game, Maranacook scored four runs in the first, and never looked back. Traip’s Alec Webster entered the game in the second inning and pitched three innings of one-run relief.

NEWMARKET - Cam Moran delivered a walk-off RBI for the Mules in this Division IV win.

Moran had two doubles, two RBIs and scored a run in the win. Nick Nigro allowed three hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings, striking out 13.

SOFTBALL

Portsmouth 5 

Alvirne 4 

HUDSON – Emme Greco had two hits and two RBIs, Evy Douglass had two RBIs, and Laura Milks had two hits as Portsmouth improved to 2-0 with this Division I win.

Abby Nersesian (two hits, run), Addie Carroll (double, run), Jordan Ovadek (hit, run), Abby Sargent (two walks) and Sydney Pettis (walk) led the Portsmouth offense.

Newmarket 10

NEWMARKET - Gia Tilton’s two-out game-winning single scored Mariza Zygouri, giving Newmarket this Division IV win.

Kierra Souphakhot pitched a complete game. She also went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs. Gilton finished with three hits and five RBIs on the day. Isabella Mendez added two hits and three runs scored in the win.

BOYS LACROSSE

Kingswood 3  

DURHAM - Tyler Callander had three goals and four assists, and Alex Moody added four goals, leading Oyster River (2-2) to this Division II win.

Senior Sam Guilmette had three goals and one assist for the Bobcats, while Jadyn Smart (two goals), and Talon Beyer (goal, assist) rounded out the scoring.

Oyster River goalie Finn Mason had nine saves.

St. Thomas Aquinas 8 

Winnacunnet 6 

HAMPTON – Anthony DiMartino had four goals and two goals, leading St. Thomas Aquinas to this Division II win,

Jackson Estes added three goals for the Saints, while Finley Detolla had two goals and one assist.

CHINA, Maine - Brody Johnson scored four goals, and Tucker Johnson had two goals and six assists as Traip Academy improved to 2-0 on the season with this Class C win.

Noah Matthews added two goals and two assists in the win, and Joey Watts had a goal and two assists. Teammates Aram Brewer, Terrence Swiger and Kellen Weldy all had a goal.

Traip goalie Noah Zyskowski had 11 saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Portsmouth 16

NASHUA – Annie Parker and Morgan Ruhnke each had four goals for Portsmouth (2-0) in this Division I win.

Charlotte Marston added three goals and one assist for the Clippers, while Sally Collins (two goals, assist), Ginger Vinciguerra (two goals) and Avery Ruhnke (goal, two assists) rounded out the scoring.

Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had six saves.

Traip Academy 19

CHINA, Maine - Quinn McPherson had a team-high six goals, and Keira Alessi and Sarah Carven both had five for Traip in this Class C win.

Elvia Mandini added two goals for the Rangers, while Delia Hartley and one, and Delia Hartley had four assists.

PORTSMOUTH – Sophia Jundi (No. 1, 9-7), Avery Parker (No. 2, 8-0), Caylie Cook (No. 3, 8-0), Mia Edwards (No. 4, 8-0), Aoife Ryan (No. 5, 8-0) and Elyse White (No. 6, 8-1) all won in singles action for Portsmouth in this Division II match.

In doubles, Jundi and Cook won 8-0 at No. 1, Porter and Edwards won 8-3 at No. 2, and White and Clara Daw won 8-3 at No. 3.

In doubles, Aidan Shilman and Hey Tenne won 8-2 at No. 1, Walsh and Anderson won 8-2 at No. 2, and White and Tracz won 8-0 at No. 3.

HOLLIS - Chris Berry (No. 3, 8-6), AJ McLaughlin (No. 4, 8-4), and Fekadu O'Connor (No. 5, 8-2) all won in singles action for Winnacunnet (2-3) in this Division II match.

Josef Daniels and O'Connor won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and AJ McLaughlin and Luke McLaughlin won 8-4 at No. 3.
