Can you drive a golf cart on a beach in Myrtle Beach, SC? Here are the city restrictions

With the plethora of golf carts found in Myrtle Beach, it would seem easy to drive your golf cart on the beach and unload for the day rather than carry everything out.

Unfortunately, that is illegal across the Myrtle Beach area.

North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Horry County and Georgetown County prohibit people from operating any motor vehicles on the beach, including golf carts, cars and motorcycles. An exception is made for government maintenance or emergency workers who need to access the beach.

In North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach and Horry County, there are also restrictions on riding bicycles on the beach during the on-season. North Myrtle Beach prohibits bicycles on the beach from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 15 through Labor Day. Myrtle Beach and Horry County have the same rule from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 through Labor Day.

Surfside Beach and Georgetown do not prohibit bicycles on the beach in their ordinances, so you are safe to ride bikes there.

If you break any of the aforementioned ordinances, you could be subject to a fine of up to $500 or up to 30 days in jail.
