Drive-thru Christmas market opens

It wouldn't be Christmas in Germany without a festive market, and one Bavarian innkeeper has decided the show must go on.

Coming up with a novel way to make sure locals still get their holiday fix despite the country's partial lockdown.

The organizer, Patrick Schmidt, says the drive-thru Christmas market northeast of Munich is about much more than just food.

"What's important to me is that picking up food like here in a drive-in has to be an experience. We don't just sell a crepe or a pack of roasted almonds, we sell an experience."

Around 160 million visitors usually descend on Germany's 2,500 Christmas markets each year.

However many - including the world-famous Nuremberg market - have been called off this year due to the inability to socially distance at them.

Top of the organizer's Christmas wish list is that next year they'll be back on as normal.

But for now in the city of Landshut Christmas is not cancelled.
