Drive-thru coffee chain began 4 years ago. Now it plans over 20 Kansas City area spots

Arkansas-based 7 Brew Coffee has three new area franchisee groups that plan multiple drive-thru-only locations across the Kansas City metro.

P2 Brew LLC is opening a location at 2415 N.E. Vivion Road in late May or early June. It also will open a Lee’s Summit location on Douglas Street next to Whataburger, and a location on Highway 76 near Walmart in Branson, Missouri.

It is in negotiations for sites in Blue Springs, Independence and Warrensburg.

“I was a customer first and next thing I know I’m opening stands. But it’s high caliber, high quality coffee,” said Jason Pullman, partner with BreAnn Proctor in P2 Brew.

Another area franchisee, Mean Bean Development LLC, will do 20 locations including 15 in the metro. It plans a May opening at 15041 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park, and is looking in the Lansing/Leavenworth area. Cousins John Platten of Boulder, Colorado, and John Kollhoff of Abilene, Kansas, are the partners in Mean Bean.

“We really love the culture — fun, friendly, high energy, fast pace. And the coffee is phenomenal,” Kollhoff said. “It’s kind of a new brand, new franchise, so it’s exciting to be part of that.”

A third franchisee, EBS Investments LLC in Overland Park, plans to open a north Overland Park location before the end of the year and three more in Overland Park by late 2024. Benjamin Stites and a silent partner, both Overland Park residents, own EBS.

7 Brew Coffee specializes in coffee drinks — both hot and cold. Menu items also include energy drinks, cocoa, mocha chillers, smoothies, chai, tea, shakes and Italian sodas.

“Employees walk up to your car to take your order and we have highly customizable drinks and a very personable experience,” said Drew Ritger, COO and director of franchising.

It offers half off for first responders and a free drink on customers’ birthdays.

Its first location opened in Rogers, Arkansas, in early 2017. It now has 14 locations in Arkansas, and southern Missouri. A South Carolina location was scheduled to open Friday. Its first Kansas location will open in Topeka in mid-to-late February.

In late March, it scored a majority investment from Drink House Holdings, which is owned by Jimmy John Liautaud, founder of Jimmy John’s, and Jamie Coulter, founder of Lone Star Steakhouse, according to trade publication QSR.

The founders named it 7 Brew for lucky number seven and perfection, with a goal to “always create the perfect drink, completely customizable and made your way,” a company spokesman said.

Other coffee chains also are expanding in the Kansas City market, including Dutch Bros Coffee, which recently opened in the Legends Outlets Kansas City in Kansas City, Kansas, and is working on locations in Belton and Shawnee.
