Drive-Thru Coronavirus Testing Site Opening At Ripken Stadium

ABERDEEN, MD — A new coronavirus testing site will be opening at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen for a one-day, high-volume event. Those age 12 and up can get tested Tuesday, Aug. 4.

The Maryland Department of Health, Harford County, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health, Aberdeen IronBirds and Aberdeen Police Department are hosting the drive-thru testing event at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

"We are excited to be a part of something that will make it easy for members of our community to get COVID-19 tests,” said Bill Ripken. “Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium is an ideal venue for a testing event, and we are honored to host."

Officials say 1,000 tests may be administered for the coronavirus during the event.

“Our aggressive statewide testing strategy — which we have expanded exponentially in recent months — is helping us to understand, identify, and stop the spread of this virus,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement. “The State of Maryland continues to make unlimited quantities of tests available to any jurisdiction that needs them to help address any shortages and delays.”

Any Marylander who wants to get tested may schedule an appointment for the event at Ripken Stadium by visiting covidtest.maryland.gov.

The testing event will be Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 2:50 p.m, at 930 Long Drive in Aberdeen. Appointments are 10 minutes.
