Driver, 18, dies from injuries sustained in Mount Olive crash that injured seven

The 18-year-old driver of one of the three vehicles involved in a crash on Oct. 23 in Mount Olive died of his injuries Monday, authorities said.

At least seven people were injured in the crash, which took place at 1:30 p.m. at Route 46 and Joy Drive in the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive, a crash update states.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office did not release the names of the victims, but an online fundraising site collecting donations for the family of Mount Olive High School senior Dondrei Martin said he died Monday of injuries sustained in a crash on Route 46 that same day.

Martin had just celebrated his 18th birthday the day before the crash.

A statement from Monroe High School clarified that Martin transferred there in September. He was flown by New Jersey State Police Medevac helicopter to Morristown Medical Center, where he remained in the Intensive Care Unit until he died, according to a message from Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic of Passaic, where his grandfather Bishop Barrington Hibbert is the pastor.

Another online fundraiser was launched last week for two other victims. The online fundraiser said Benjamin “QB” Quattlebaum and his 12-year-old daughter, Destinee, were seriously injured when their car was hit in a head-on collision on Route 46 that day.

"Both father and daughter are expected to have extended hospital stays and face long roads to recovery," the fundraiser said.

Quattlebaum is described as a 2003 Mount Olive High School graduate and member of a state championship football team there who now volunteers as a coach for the eighth grade Mount Olive Junior Marauders Varsity football team.

The update released Monday from Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Mount Olive police Chief of Detectives Christoph Kimker and Chief Stephen Beecher said the driver of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata lost control of the vehicle while driving on Route 46 east, causing a head-on collision with a BMW traveling in the westbound lanes.

The driver and four passengers of the Sonata were taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment.

The driver and passenger of the BMW were also taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. There were no injuries reported to the occupants of the third vehicle, a Subaru.

No criminal charges are expected, authorities said. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200 or the Mount Olive Police Department at 973-691-0850.
